Russian and Soviet History has long been a popular curriculum choice for teachers and students alike. Yet teaching it comes with challenges, from language to culture, people to geography, wider frames of historical context to granular specifics of content.
This blog shares
some of the approaches I take to teaching Russian and Soviet History
(principally c. 1855-1964) in the classroom. I am currently teaching Russian
and Soviet History in the UK at A-Level (AQA: 1H), having previously completed
a PhD in Russian Studies at the University of Manchester.
The resources
showcased and shared here have all been tried and tested in the classroom, and the
approaches developed in conversation with Russian and Soviet specialists around
the Study Group of the Russian Revolution (a division of the British
Association of Slavonic and East European Studies: BASEES).
All
resources are free to use and share for non-commercial educational purposes. They can be found on the Google Drive folder, linked here.
Any and all questions and comments are welcome.
